From 1963 to 2023, we have been making you spend an unforgettable holiday for 60 years. The history of Domaine du Colombier has always been linked to that of the Chaix family. Bertrand Chaix and his wife Régine represent the second generation in the management of the campsite, established on the family lands of the Fréjussien maquis for more than 60 years.

1950's
1957The maquis
The Chaix family bought a plot of what was called here the maquis: neglected land, unsuitable for cultivation. In the plain of Reyran, below, peach trees were cultivated, hence the nickname La Vallée Rose.
1959Malpasset
In December 1959 the Malpasset disaster left its mark on Fréjus. The failure of the dam has caused heavy loss of life and the city and its surroundings are devastated. The Domaine du Colombier is no exception, but for the second time the promontory where the restaurant is located today plays a decisive role: some employees of the Domaine hearing the distant roar of the mud immediately think that it can only come from the dam! Without wasting a second they will take refuge at the top of the hill! They will watch, stunned and helpless, the wave of mud infamous since then. Safe and sound, they owe it to their quick deduction and to the fact of having lived at the foot of this promontory. Already, during the war of 40, the place being one of the highest points of the plain, with unobstructed view of the sea, the Germans had made it one of their strategic positions by establishing a bunker.
1960's
19624-star campsite
The Chaix family, owner of the estate, decided to exploit the famous abandoned land by creating one of the first4-star campsites in the Var in Fréjus. Innovative idea at least at the time! Roads are developed, serviced and small stone walls are built so that the plots are delimited while following the topography of the land. The typical Mediterranean nature of the site is preserved and maintained.
1970's
1975New swimming pool
A new swimming pool of 30 x 20m is built to the delight of guests. In the following years, the family that owns the Domaine du Colombier, a 4-star Var campsite in Fréjus, will continue to improve services and infrastructure, investing more and more in luxurious mobile homes in the best factories according to specifications specific to the establishment.

2012Major investments
the family owner of the Domaine du Colombier in Fréjus 4-star campsite in the Var decides on major investments that will cost more than 4 000 000 € HT:
- Lagoon of 3600 m² with slides, river currents, fun paddling pool, free sunbathing beds available. Fresh water heated by heat pumps.
- Balneotherapy of 1500 m², including 600 m² of heated water, equipped with aqua bike, aquaelliptical, aquatrekking, multiple hydrojets, lumbar massage square, plantar geysers, anatomical benches, 2 swimming lanes, 2 Jacuzzis ®, a submerged beach, cardio training area and free sunbathing beds available.
- Superb spa composed of several cabins including a duo, a hammam, a hydro-active massage table, a herbal tea room and a nail bar. Atmosphere dedicated to dreams and distant journeys to better escape to a magical well-being.
At the same time, since 2004 a minimum of € 500,000 excluding VAT is invested each year at Domaine du Colombier.
2013 à 2023Campsite expansion
- In 2013, we completely renovated the entrance to the Domaine. It was also the creation of the first Premium district of the campsite “le Malibu”, each cottage of which is equipped with the Jaccuzi.
- Between 2017 and 2021, three more premium districts were created.
In 2022, the bistronomic restaurant La Paillote had the right to a renovation and reinvention. - Finally, in 2023, the main restaurant of Le Panoramique campsite has been redone. We also created two Padels courts, one singles and one doubles.
2023Our 60 years!
Today, nearly 60 years later, Le Domaine du Colombier ranks among the most beautiful and luxurious outdoor establishments on the Côte d’Azur. Season after season, a team full of talent and motivation, gathers around the Chaix family, and works hand in hand to share with holidaymakers its history and values … In order to create your most beautiful travel memories.
